Fancy Frocks: Spain’s Newest Fashion House Alonsize Has Arrived
Often it is mentioned of the symbiotic relationship between architecture and fashion design—clean lines, jutting angles and a crisp skeletal structure to build outwardly arriving at their foundational apex. Enter Spain’s newest (and quite accomplished…) couturist, José Manuel Gómez Alonso debuting his most recent collection entitled “Straight Lines” a combination of evening wear, fur, wool overcoats and exceptional millinery for the glamourous at heart.
Alonso views his recent collection as his contribution of artistic expression citing “La moda hay que vivir la y sentirla como un arte” or loosely translated as “The fashionable one must live it and to feel it as an art” which is quite evident in this season’s examples. Each hand-crafted example is exquisite, simple and elegant with bold statements of just the right amount of contrast without overindulgence whether fur, sequins or precious stones highlighting the careful cut of each piece.
His brush with the fashion industry began as a window dresser and visual merchandiser for stores such as Gables, Repriss and Denmark in Northern Spain where he first realised his desire to design. From then onward, Alonso has won considerable accolades and recognition including “First Prize – Contest of Young Designers of Cantabria 2006″, “Winner – Contest of Young Designers of Madrid 2009″ and “Finalist – XX Edition of the Fashionable National Prizes” comparative to New York’s GenART where Zac Posen was originally discovered. Recently he was awarded with “Second Prize – Best Innovative Business of Recent Creation 2010″ in the province of Palencia. After dabbling as a stylist for L’Oréal Paris, Alonso was chosen to design the new uniform for the mega beauty and hair salon, Marco Aldany including designing the newly branded shirts for the fashionable first chain of male-dedicated salons “MAN by Marco Aldany” in Spain.
Upon founding his fashion label “ALONSIZE”, Alonso looks towards the future with contributing amongst his peers to the rebirth of haute couture in Spain which is already a bustling industry with alongside such fashion giants as Manolo Blahnik, Pedro García, Balenciaga, TOUS, Agatha Ruíz de la Prada and their many other notable counterparts. Already at the young age of 25, Alonso is quickly rising up the ranks in Spain’s fashion industry as a force to be reckoned with by combining his 21st Century design techniques and heavy influence from prêt-à-porter maisons that have come before him in history. His precise craftsmanship is partially remnant of vintage Cristóbal Balenciaga with a twist of early Hussein Chalayan; however one can only expect his creative growth to continue and evolve.
At the moment, ALONSIZE can be found throughout Spain with his fashionable and fancy legion of Spain’s elite ordering from his recent collection; however his current options are open to expand into other territories throughout Europe and beyond.
